Dance Companies of Abeni

 

The dance companies of Abeni are unique because each group is separate and equal all at the same time.  Each individual group performs on it's own in a variety of dances, however, there may be times you see them perform all at once. We encourage our dancers to try any dance they chose, not just the ones they are taught. So don't be surprised if you see on of our little ones dancing with an adult. Read on to find out more information about each group.

 

THE LITTLE MIRACLES OF ABENI

(Beginning Toddler/ Young Child)
(Ages 2 - 10)

 

Requirements:

• Must be a student of Abeni Cultural Arts Performing Dance Studio

• Be able to attend regular rehearsals and performances

• Particpate in all fundraising events

IJABA YOUTH DANCE ENSEMBLE

(Intermedite-Advanced Youth/Teen)
(Ages 11 - 17)

 

Join the Abeni's great youth performing group. Ijaba Youth Dance Ensemble has been performing since 2006, and has graced Savannah with great dancing from the beginning. Not only do our get first rate professional choreography, they also get great life lessons and and pushed to achieve not only dance greatness, but also academic excellence. If you love performing, Ijaba is the group for you.

Audition

Auditions are held year-round. Prospective members can call or email to set up their visit (Go to our contact page for this information). At the audition, the dancer will:

• Perform a prepared piece no longer than 1 min 30 sec

• Perform a freestyle

• Perform choreography from a signature KCDC piece

 

Other requirements:

• Must sign commitment contract (Contract can be ended at any time)

• Pay a $25.00 Membership

• Be able to attend regular rehearsals and performances

• Particpate in all fundraising events

• Be a community spokesperson for the group

KOKUMO COLLECTIVE DANCE COMPANY

(Intermediate/Advanced Adult)

(Advance Teen/Apprentice) (Adults)

 

Kokumo Collective Dance Company has gained fame recognition throughout the Coastal Empire for the last 7 years. From Atlanta to Jacksonville, Kokumo has performed at a professional level and given audiences the best in Modern, Contemporary, Jazz and African. KCDC has gotten commitments from top choreographers to add to their repertoire and want to add high level dancers to complete these pieces. We encourage ideas and a sense that eveyone has a say in the company. Kokumo is not just a dance company, it's a family.
